Frequently Asked Questions:
- What do I do if my computer is stolen?
- Log into your account and click the "Report My Computer Lost/Stolen" button. If your computer's web browser accesses your Latchit Homepage, you'll be notified and information about your computer's usage can be accessed through your account.
- Is Latchit compatible with all computers?

The alarm feature requires a webcam and Adobe Flash Player 9.0 or higher. - Will I be charged for the text messages I receive from Latchit?
- Though we do not charge to send text messages, your telephone carrier's standard text message rates will apply.
- Can I save or print the images that are captured using the alarm feature?
- Yes! Save the image by right clicking or option clicking the image you wish to save. Select "Save image as" and select a location to save the image to. To print, open the file that you just saved and print.
- How do I update my account settings?
- Go to the My Account page and click on the "Account Settings" link in the top section of the page.
- How do I change my homepage?
- Go to the My Account page and click on the "Account Settings" link in the top section of the page and click on the "Homepage" tab that appears. Fill out the form and click "Save". Your homepage will automatically point to the new homepage address.
- How do I change my phone number?
- Go to the My Account page and click on the "Account Settings" link in the top section of the page and click on the "Phone Number" tab that appears. Fill out the form, being sure to confirm you new number and click "Save".
- How do I turn on/off text message alerts?
- Go to the My Account page and click on the "Account Settings" link in the top section of the page and click on the "Text Alerts" tab that appears. Select the appropriate option and click "Save".
- What is an IP Address?
- It's the computers identifying number while it's connected to the internet.
- Can I use Latchit without a webcam?
- Yes, but only for tracking the use and location of your computer. Latchit needs a webcam to capture images and for the alarm.
- Do I have to change my homepage to use latchit?
- To use the Tracking service you'll need to set your homepage to the link we create for you. But, you can use the Alarm feature without changing your homepage.
- Can I publish the images captured by my webcam?
- Feel free to copy your captured images for backup purposes but consult your local laws and regulations proir to publishing them.
- How quickly will I receive a text message alert?
- Though we cannot guarantee a specific timeframe since your telephone carrier ultimately has control over the speed of delivery, typically you'll receive text alerts to both the alarm and tracking events within 5 or 6 seconds.
- How accurate is the location tracking?
- At a 25 mile radius we have a 90% accuracy to your computers location. If the person using you computer is accessing the internet via cellular internet we can provide the service carrier and IP address, but we cannot be sure of the location.
