About Latchit

Latchit is a free, web-based, computer alarm and location tracking service.

About the Location Tracking Service:

Latchit runs a quick check on the status of your computer each time your browser homepage is accessed. If you've reported your computer stolen, Latchit records the location, IP Address, Internet Service Provider, Network Organization, the date and time of the access, captures a webcam image and records this information in your Latchit account. It also sends email and text messages to alert you to the use of your computer. If you wish to use the tracking service, it is crucial that you set your browser's homepage to the custom homepage address associated with your account

About the Alarm:

The alarm uses your webcam to detect motion of and around your computer. When the motion alarm is tripped either from too much movement in front of the camera or by the camera/computer being moved, it snaps a webcam photo, sounds an attention getting siren and sends email and text message alerts.

The images are recorded to your Latchit account on our servers for safekeeping. You can view captured images within the email notices or from within your Latchit account.

The alarm can also be triggered if someone presses a key other than the first key of your disarm code. This is useful if you suspect that someone is using your computer while you're away. By setting the motion alarm to the maximum sensitivity setting, it's likely only to be triggered by someone attempting to use the keyboard

Alarm Settings:

Within the settings tab of the alarm, you can adjust the following settings:

Arm Delay

The Arm Delay setting allows you to adjust the time it takes for the alarm to arm after clicking the "Arm" button. This is useful if you're setting the alarm to a high level of sensitivity and need time to move away from your computer without tripping the alarm yourself.

Alarm Siren Delay

The Alarm Siren Delay setting allows you to adjust the amount of time between when the alarm is tripped and the siren sounds. Webcam images and alert messages are sent immediately, but in some cases, you may not want the siren to sound right way. The delay provides time to enter your disarm code and disarm the alarm before the siren goes off.

You'll want to be careful not to set it too high, or the siren may not sound until the theif is well on their way out the door. Some laptop models may not even allow the siren to start after the lid has been closed.

Sensitivity Overdrive

The sensitivity overdrive setting allows for adjustment of how much motion is detected by the alarm. This is especially useful in extremely bright or dim lighting conditions. Adjust the setting lower or higher for less or greater sensitivity, respectively.

Disarm Code

If you wish to change your disarm code, simply enter a new 3 character code and close the settings tab.
